THE FIRST WORLD WAR ENDED WITH THE DEFEAT OF OTTOMAN TURKEY.TO DEFEND THE KHALIFA'S TEMPORAL POWERS A KHILAFA COMMITTEE WAS FORMED IN BOMBAY IN MARCH 1919. A YOUNG GENERATION OF MUSLIM LEADERS LIKE MUHAMMAD ALI AND SHAUKAT ALI WAS GREATLY INVOLVED IN THIS. GANDHIJI SAW THIS AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO UNITE HINDUS AND MUSLIMS.AND STARTED THE KHILAFAT MOVEMENT
