The greater than expected decrease in ionic radii of elements, in the lanthanide series from Lanthanum to Lutetium (atomic numbers 57 to 71), is known as Lanthanide contraction.
Lanthanide alloys are known as Misch metals. Misch metals contain lanthanide metals such as cerium, and smaller quantities of neodymium, lanthanum, praseodymium etc. They are used in metallurgical applications. An example is Auer metal.
