Large intestine consists of:

=> \sf{\underline{Caecum}}

=> \sf{\underline{Colon}}

=> \sf{\underline{Rectum}}

\text{\underline{(i)\:Caecum:}}

It is a small blind sac which hosts some symbiotic micro-organisms.

Vermiform appendix arises from the caecum is vestigial in human being.

This caecum opens into the colon.

\text{\underline{(ii)\:Colon:}}

The colon is divided into three parts, an ascending, a transverse and a descending part.

This descending part of colon opens into rectum.

Ascending colon is the smallest part and lacks mesentery.

\text{\underline{(iii)\:Rectum:}}

It is the last part of alimentary canal.

It is the storage site for faecal matter.

It opens outside through anus.

\text{\underline{NOTE:}}

Wall of colon has sac like haustra.

Histologically, wall of colon has 3 bands of longitudinal muscles called taeniae coli.

Another characteristic of colon surface is the presence of small fat filled projections called epiploic appendages.
