Lateral inversion is the effect produced by a mirror in reversing images from left to right.

Lateral inversion is associated with image.

The image is literally inverted. It means that in the image formed by a plane mirror the left and right sides are reversed.

This also can be explained as if you raise your right hand in front of a plane mirror then the appeared image will show that left had been raised.
