LAW OF MULTIPLE PROPORTION :-

* THIS LAW WAS PROPOSED BY DALTON IN 1803.

*ACCORDING TO THIS LAW  if two elements combine to form more than one compound , the masses of one element that combine with a fixed mass of other element are in the ratio of small whole numbers.

example :

hydrogen + oxygen ----> water

2g   +   16g -----> 18g

hydrogen + oxygen -----> hydrogen peroxide

2g + 32g --------> 34g

here the masses of oxygen combines with fixed mass of hydrogen to bear simple ratio , i.e., 16:32 or 1:2

`\textbf{Law of Multiple Proportion}`

→ When two elements combined to form more than 1 compounds of one element, which combine with the fixed mass of other element in simple ration to one another.

OR

→ When fixed mass of an element react with different mass of another same element then it bears a simple whole number ratio.

→ It was given by Dalton in 1803.

`\textbf{Example of Law of Multiple Proportion}`

C + ½ O2 ----› CO

Here,

C = 12 gm and ½ O2 = 16 gm

C + O2 -----› CO2

Here,

C = 12 gm and O2 = 32 gm

So,

= ½ O2 : O2

= 16 : 32

= 1 : 2
