Leghemoglobin is found in the root nodules of leguminous plants.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It promotes the diffusion of oxygen to the bacteria (like rhizobium) present in the root nodules in order to carry out nitrogen fixation.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just like the function of haemoglobin in humans, the protein Leghemoglobin ensures proper functioning of root nodules by boosting them with enough oxygen for the nitrogen fixation to occur so that the plant cam derive its nutrient to grow properly. It also has red pigment and is found in plants like soya bean.
