Antivirus protection limitations

Antivirus scanning might be subject to limitations imposed by the antivirus vendor scan engine software, such as limits on file size or scan time, and limits on the processing of container files, such as nesting depth. See the antivirus scan engine vendor documentation for more information on limits, including available options for limit configuration.

Only the Common Interface File System (CIFS) protocol is currently supported by antivirus protection for the IBM SONAS system. The NFS file protocol is not currently supported.Enabling or disabling file scanning based on filename extension fails in the presence of symbolic links. It is not practical to provide antivirus protection for files that are read simultaneously with being written. Antivirus scanning happens only on open for read or close after write, not on each read. If one process opens a file for read while another process is writing a virus to the file, the first process might be able to read a virus.Antivirus checking is not performed on a read-only file system, such as a cache file system in read-only (RO) mode, because the antivirus function must perform various write operations on the files, including but not limited to:
storing extended attributes to record scan times, and quarantine the file, even if no action is specified
quarantining files by moving them
quarantining files by deleting them
repairing files
