linear magnification is ratio of image distance to object distance in a plane perpendicular to axis.

=> m = -v/u

The ratio of height of image to the height of object is known as linear magnification.
It can be represented by:
m=h(i) /h(o) =-v/u
where h(i) is height of image
h(o) is height of object
v is image's distance and
u is object's distance
