The adjacent angles are the angles which have a common vertex. Hence, here as well the linear angles have a common vertex. Also, there will be a common arm which represents both the angles. A real-life example of a linear pair is a ladder which is placed against a wall, forms linear angles at the ground.

LINEAR PAIR PROPERTY:
A linear pair of angles is formed when two lines intersect. Two angles are said to be linear if they are adjacent angles formed by two intersecting lines. The measure of a straight angle is 180 degrees, so a linear pair of angles must add up to 180 degrees.
EXAMPLE:

In the figure, ∠1and ∠2form a linear pair. So do ∠2 and ∠3 , ∠3 and ∠4 , and ∠1 and ∠4 .
