Line of Symmetry:-

The line that you reflect over is called the line of symmetry which divides a figure into two mirror-image halves.

Axis of Symmetry:-

A line about which the figure is symmetrical, is called axis of symmetry.

If a geometrical figure is symmetric about a straight line, then it is the line of symmetry for the object or figure. If the object or figure is like an image of itself about the line, then it is the line of symmetry.

If an object or figure is rotated about one straight line, then that line is the axis of symmetry for the 3-dimensional object generated.  For a square , its diagonals are lines of symmetry. For a circle, a diameter is a line of symmetry.

A diameter is the axis of symmetry for a sphere. When a hemisphere is rotated about a diameter of the base, we get sphere.

When the X axis is rotated about the Z axis (ie., moving perpendicular to Z axis), we get the x-y plane.  So Z axis is the axis of symmetry here.

For a cylinder, its axis through the center is the axis of symmetry.
