Definition of Lithosphere :

The lithosphere is the solid rock that covers the planet. This includes the crust as well as the very most upper part of the mantle, which is solid rock.  All of the rock on earth from mountains to the sea floor is included in the lithosphere.

The lithosphere is the outer solid shell of the Earth. The lithosphere is made up of rocks from two of the Earth's major layers. It contains all of the outer, thin shell of the planet, called the crust, and the uppermost part of the next-lower layer, the mantle.
