It represents an archaic (or quick) method to calculate the approximate damping ratio and damped natural frequency from experimental measurements in an underdampedlinear oscillator system where viscous damping is assumed to be the only prominent dissipation mechanism.

i simple words:-the natural logarithm of the decrement for a series of exponentially damped oscillations
