Answer :-

Lysosomes are known as the suicidal bags of the cells.

The enzyme secreted by the lysosome digests the cell in which the lysosome itself exists.

Functions :-

  • They help in the processes of both Extra-cellular and Intra-cellular digestion.

  • In some cases, they help in the process of Metamorphosis.

  • They play an important role in the detoxification of the toxified cells.

Extra Information :-

  • Lysosomes were discovered by "D. Duve".

  • Lysosomes secrete substances like "Hydrolytic Enzymes" which help them in the accomplishment of their purpose.

  • Acrosome of the sperms are made up of lysosomes.

  • Health problems such as "Arthritis" and "Lung Fibrosis" are caused due to the improper functioning of the Lysosomes.
