Viral reproduction involves two cycles. They are the Lytic cycle and the Lysogenic cycle.

The infected cell and its membrane is destroyed as a result of the Lytic cycle. Within the bacterial cell, the viral DNA remains as a separate free-floating molecule and replicates separately (from the host bacterial DNA).

This is the main difference of Lytic cycle from Lysogenic cycle, where viral DNA is located within the host DNA.
