The magnetic effect of electric current is known as electromagnetic effect. It is observed that when a compass is brought near a current carrying conductor the needle of compass gets deflected because of flow of electricity.

Set up a simple electric circuit consisting of a wire, a battery, a switch and a bulb. When current passes through the circuit, the bulb lights up. Now try bringing a magnetic compass near the circuit and notice how the needle deflects when the circuit is complete.
