Both hematite and rust are reddish brown in color. Another oxide is FeO (iron is in +2 oxidation state) or ferrous oxide which is quite rare in nature. Iron and oxygen also form Fe3O4, which is considered as a mixture of Fe2O3 and FeO. This material is found in nature as an iron ore, and is called Magnetite

Hey mate here is your answer

Iron and Oxygen combine together to form iron oxide with different molecular formulae. Most common is Fe2O3 or ferric oxide (iron is in +3 oxidation state). This material is found in nature as an iron ore, and is called “Hematite”. It is also the product of corrosion of iron, and then it is called “rust”.

This material is found in nature as an iron ore, and is called Magnetite. Fe3O4 shows magnetism.

Fe2O3 occurs in different phases - same chemical formula but with different crystal structure. Alpha phase is anti-ferromagnetic at low temperatures, and weakly ferromagnetic at higher temperatures. Gamma phase is strongly ferromagnetic, and its fine particles are embedded in audio tapes for recording voice and music
