Negative mass is generalized to refer to any region of space in which for some observers the mass density is measured to be negative. It is also a concept used to explain the nature of certain fields, including the gravitational field and a number of quantum field effects while the positive energy states that, assuming the dominant energy condition, the mass of an asymptotically flat spacetime is non-negative;furthemore,the mass is zero only for Minkowski spacetime

Negative mass is a hypothetical concept of matter in theoretical physics,  whose mass is of an opposite sign to the mass of normal matter, for example  −2 kg. This concept is used in certain speculative theories, like construction of wormholes.

According to the theory of special relativity matter (as mass) and energy can be converted into each other. E = m c 2, where E is energy, m is mass, and c is the speed of light.
