Restriction Endonuclease

》This are the enzyme which cuts the DNA strand at the ends.

》These are also known as the molecular scissors.

》They possess specific recognition sites on the DNA strands characterized by some specific base pairs where they cut the strands.

》It binds to the DNA and cuts the two opposite strands when it finds the recognitin site.

》These recognition sites are known as palindromic sequence.

》It cuts the opposite strands between the same two base pairs which results in the formation of overhanging stretches called Sticky Ends.
