By the statement we mean that both motion and rest are relative terms i.e. These terms are always said with respect to the surroundings for example for passenger sitting in a moving car his fellow is in rest but for a man standing outside the moving car the passenger is in rest. Or we can also take the example of earth likewise earth is also in motion for an astronaut or if we imagine an alien but for us earth is at rest.
