It is a form of matter that has chemical composition and characteristic properties. It cannot be separated either by physical methods ie , breaking bond. It can be either solid , liquid , gas or plasma.

The matter which consists of definite chemical composition and has some specific properties.for ex:: every pure compound/element is a substance.
