Angle strain or Bayer's strain is a property or rearrangement of molecules to achieve maximum stability.
Angle strain occurs when bond angles deviate from the ideal bond angles to achieve maximum bond strength in a specific chemical conformations("definition from wikipedia")
Maximum bond strength gives maximum stability(thermal, chemical etc)
Let us describe it,
When a molecule is formed, the bond rearrange themselves in some angles, but how that angle is formed?(like in alkanes it is 109.5°),why not other angles formed?
The simple answer of this how questions are that, they rearrange in such a way to achieve maximum stability.Every chemical compound arrange in the proper way for maximum stability.
In ring compounds, strain occurs(a lot of),among which angle strain is one.
And this arrangement is due to the resultant of different forces inside molecule like,Dipole forces, dipole moment, repulsive forces(like steric repulsion etc),which gives a path to rearrange in a proper way and we call this as angle strain(or ring strain, pitzer strain etc).
Thanks.
