The anticline is a type of fold in the rocks which has an arc-shape and have the oldest beds at its core. Anticlines are convex up wherein the crest is the location where the curvature is the greatest.

The syncline is a type of fold in the rocks where younger layers are closer to the center of the structure. Synclines are typically a downward fold.
