Hi !
Aqua regia is a mixture of two concentrated acids .
The acids , Hydrochloric acid (HCl) and Nitric acid (HNO₃) are mixed together in the ratio 3:1 , to get this solution.
3 parts of HCl , and 1 part of HNO₃
HCl or HNO₃ alone cannot dissolve metals like gold .
But mixture of the concentrated solutions of these two acids ,in the ratio 3:1 , , can dissolve gold !
I have attached a picture of a gold being dipped into the aqua regia solution.
Refer to it !
Thanks !
