Chromosomes are rod like structures present in the nucleus of cells. They become visible only when the cell divides. Chromosomes are made of DNA or deoxyribonucleic acid which form the hereditary material in most organisms.
There are two types of Chromosomes, x and y. All somatic cells have 23 pairs of Chromosomes while the gametes have only 23 Chromosomes. The female gamete or egg has a x Chromosome, while 50% of sperms have x and 50% have y Chromosome.
