Clause is basically referred to a sentence which contains a subject as well as a predicate but is still incomplete…this means a clause is a sentence with an incomplete sense.
For more clarity lets see an example:-
Have you done the task which was to be done by you- This is a sentence giving a complete sense.
Now see the next one:-
Which was to be given by you.-This sentence has subject and predicate both, but, still is not making any sense as its sense is not clear.
Thus, this goes in accordance with the definition of the clause.
