what is meant by hybridisation

man: Overlapping of two different orbitals such that the energy levels of orbitals is same is hybridisation.
man: Eg: In ethene H2C=CH2, 1s orbital of hydrogen overlap with 2p orbital of carbon forming sigma bonds, The half filled p orbital of one carbon atom overlaps with other carbon atom to form sigma bond and the vacant Pz orbital in both the carbon atom gets overlapped with each other to form Pi bond. This overlappping phenomenon is called hybridisation. Note: Here the orbitals getting overlapped no matter it is sigma aur pi bond; they must have same energy levels.
