What is meant by Midterm election
Answers
Answer:
Midterm elections, so named because they occur in even- numbered years at the halfway point of a presidential term, determine which political party will control the two chambers of the U.S. Congress for upcoming two years.
Answer:
(i) The elected government in power loses its majority and can become a minority because
of partisan politics.
(ii) If no party gets complete majority, then two or more parties come together and form a
coalition government.
(iii) Such coalition government collapses if any party withdraws the given support.
(iv) In such situations, the government is left with no option other than resigning.
(v) If there is no alternative available to form government then the parliament is dissolved
before completing its term.
In such a scenario, the Election Commission conducts elections which are known as Mid-
term Elections.
