Photo electric effect --

it is the phenomenon of ejection of electron from metal surface when a suitable light frequency strikes on it.

• caesium(Cs) which is the best metal for Photoelectric effect due to its low ionization enthalpy.

Observations ---

1. threshold frequency is required to eject the electron from metal surface so incident ray must have frequency equals to greater than its threshold frequency.
2. kinetic energy of electrons depends on frequency of incident ray.
3. number of electrons ejected from metal surface is directly proportional to intensity of light.
