Polymerisation and its types:

  • The process in which the large number of monomers combines to form a large polymer is known as Polymerisation.

Types:

  1. Linear Polymerisation
  2. Cross linked Polymerisation.
  • The single molecules combine to form many chain is also determined as polymerisation.
  • The small unit which makes the polymer are called monomers.
  • Depending upon the type of linkage between the monomers there can be Linear or Cross-Linked polymerization.
  • Linear Polymerization: In this type of polymerization, the individual monomers units are connected to each other in a linear fashion.
  • Cross-Linked Polymerization: In this type of polymerization, the individuals monomers are connected in a cross-linked manner.
  • Example:- Polyethene which is an polymer of ethylene.
