power of a lens is the resiprocal of its focal length. its si unit is dioptre (D)

f = 40 cm

the lens is convex lens

p = 1/f

p = 1/40

p = 0.025 D

f = -20 cm

the lens is concave lens

p = 1/f

p = 1/-20

p = - 0.05 D
