The primary sector of any economy is its agricultural sector. In case of the Indian economy, the industry and services are the secondary and tertiary sectors respectively.

The agricultural sector is the primary sector because -
1) Most of the national income is generated from this sector.
2) Maximum portion of the population is engaged in agriculture.
