Among a lot of theories of acids and bases,Arrhenius and Bronsted-Lawry theory clearly says that an acid is something which gives H^+(positive) ion in it's aqueous solution(means solution with water). This type of acids are called as protonic acids(like HCl,H_2SO_4 etc).
In the other hand, lewis theory says that acid is something which can accept a lone pair of electrons. These are lewis acids(like CO_2,SO_2 etc).
So basically the term "protonic acid" is used to differentiate lewis acid and other H+ giving acids(in aqueous solutions).
