operation performed after crude metals have been extracted from their ores, to obtain them at a higher purity. it is used by electrolytic with cathode and anode.... in the mixture.eg.zink

Purification of the crude metal to get pure metal is called Refining.

In the electro-refining of copper, crude copper is made anode, a thin sheet of pure copper is made Cathode .

The electrolyte is a solution of Copper sulphate containing a small amount of dilute sulphuric acid .

On passing an electric current, Copper dissolves from the anode into the electrolyte and an equivalent amount of copper from the electrolyte gets deposited at the cathode in the form of pure metal.

{Refer the attachment and see the reaction in the attachment that I had written}

As the process continues, impure anode goes on dissolving in the solution and becomes thinner and thinner . At the same time pure copper gets deposited on the Cathode . The impurities present in the crude copper either go into the solution or remain there.
