The ratio between density of a substance and density of water at 4°C is called as Relative Density of the Substance.
As Relative Density is the ratio between the densities or masses of the Substance and water at 4°C, therefore it has no units but it is quite pure number.
Relative Density some times called as Specific Gravity, I.e., it tells how much a given substance is heavier or lighter as compared to water at 4°C.
Relative Density = Density of Substance/ Density of water at 4°C.
