In order to know what social ecology is, we must first know what is meant by the term "ecology". Since ecology deals with the relation of all living organisms in a common settlement with each other and with their surrounding environment whether it be biotic or abiotic.

Social ecology specifically describes the interrelation of people with their environment. It explains how plants and animals adjust to the experimentation  of human communities related to the social and behavioral sciences.
