Floating means when a object stays on surface of the fluid due to greater buoyancy force of the fluid
When when the weight of the body exceeds the buoyancy force of then it goes down which we call as sinking

If the object stay on the surface of water this is known as float.
If the object go downward in the water this is known as sink.
