The time taken to complete something is known as period.
It is shown in the picture that it will take 7 periods to complete polynomials and 15 periods to complete linear equations.

It means the time period in which this chapter will be completed. As polynomials will be completed in 7 periods and linear equations in 15 periods. I think this will clear your doubt.!!
