Answer:

According to My Concern ,

  • The outer orbit of an Atom can contain 8 electrones to make that atom Stable or Noble .
  • So , the number of Electrones that can be Gain or Loose by the outer orbit of that atom to make the atom Stable is known as the Valency .
  • That outer orbital is known as Valence Orbital .

Example :- Number of electrones present is Oxygen is 8 .

               ⇒ So its Electronic configuration is -  k-2 , l-6

⇒Now its outer orbital have 6 electrones .

⇒ To make the atom Stable , Outer Orbital need to gain 2 more  electrones ....

∴ So the Valency of Oxygen is now 2 .

Or You can Simply use this Definition ,

The valency of an element is the number of hydrogen atoms that can combine with or replace (either directly or indirectly) one atom of the element .
