Answer:

Results are presented from studies of the properties of steelmaking dust and the main mechanisms of dust formation during steel production in basic oxygen converters and electric-arc furnaces. It is noted that the issue of the mechanism by which the dust is formed has not yet been definitively resolved. The dustgeneration process is intimately related to the process of decarbonization of the metal. As a working hypothesis, it can be argued that the main factor which determines the rate of dust formation and the rate of decarbonization of the metal is the maximum rate of flow of oxygen to a unit surface of the bath within the reaction zone. Experience shows that this factor can be used to optimize the process of oxygen blowing in different types of furnaces.
