cortex is the outer part of the kidney whereas renal medulla is the inner deeper part of kidney. They do also differ in the presence of nephron's.Cortical nephron's are present in cortex and medullary nephrons are present mostly in medulla with a small part present in inner cortex.
Hope it help you.
