A period happens because of changes in hormones in the body. Hormonesare chemical messengers. The ovaries release the female hormones estrogen and progesterone . These hormones cause the lining of the uterus (or womb) to build up.

reason:- uterus prepares itself every month for the implantation of egg but if fertilisation does not happen then this lining break and come out of the body.
