Answer:

MENSTRUAL CYCLE

Female reproductive system undergoes some changes at puberty and those changes repeat at the interval of every 29-30 days. These repetitive changes are called as menstrual cycle.

The natural process of menstrual cycle is controlled by four hormones- Follical Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Luteinizing Hormone(LH), Estrogen, Progesterone.

Under the effect of FSH one of the follicles in the ovary starts to develop.

The developing follicle secretes estrogen.

The estrogen causes development or regeneration of the endometrium of the uterus.

Developing follicle completes its development and bursts under the influence of LH and oocyte is released. This is called as ovulation.

The remaining tissue of the burst follicle forms corpus luteum which secretes progesterone.

Under the influence of progesterone, the endometrial glands secrete their secretions and endometrium becomes ready for implantation of embryo.

If the oocyte is not fertilised, the corpus luteum becomes inactive and transforms into corpus albicans.

Corpus albicans stops the secretion of estrogen and progesterone.

In the absence of these hormones, the endometrium degenerates. The degenerating endometrium and unfertilized ovum are discarded out through vagina in the form of continuous bleeding. This is called as menstruation.
