The cell of meristematic tissue is thin walled with a large prominent neucleus in the centre . It lacks cell vacuole and is filled with dense protoplasm . These cells divide rapidly and continuously. This leads to the growth of plants in height and thickness . Thus, these actively dividing cells occur in the parts of plants like root tip and shoot tip. Dpending upon the location and functions , there are two types of meristematic tissues - lateral meristematic tissue and apical meristematic tissue.
