What is metaphor ? the poem from which i hav asked the above ques. is very controversial. every book says something different about it. where shud i confirm it from?

A metaphor is a poetic device used to compare two object WITHOUT using the words 'like' or 'as'. This makes it different from a simile wherein the words 'like' or 'as' ARE used..
