➪ Mitochondria are tiny spherical, rod-shaped or thread like bodies. They had various shapes but usually sausage like. These are minute double-walled bags with their inner walls produced into finger - like processes projecting inwards called Cristae. They have their own DNA containing several genes. They also contain their own ribosomes. These are the sites of production or releasing energy in the form of ATP.

➪ Mitochondria are tiny cell organelles found inside the cytoplasm of a cell which are responsible for producing or releasing energy from pyruvic acid in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy currency of the cell, that are used for different metabolic activities inside a cell. This process is known as cellular respiration, thus, mitochondria is called as the powerhouse of the cell.
