momentum is a quantity of motion.
therefore da product of mass × velocity iz called momentum.
p = m × v
where,

p= momentum,
m= mass, and
v= velocity

it is experience in daily life that if two walls of different masses are moving with the same velocity the force needed to stop the heavier what is more than that for lighter ball. this means that the force required to stop a moving ball is directly proportional to its mass if two cricket balls of same mass be thrown with different velocity is Greater force is required to stop the ball moving faster as compared to ball coming slower this concludes that force required to stop the body is proportional to velocity force required to stop of all depends on two factors mass of wall and velocity of all it seems that the quantity comprising both mass and velocity has spatial meaning this quantity is called the linear momentum.

the linear momentum of a body is defined as a product of mass and velocity.

momentum = mass * velocity

the momentum is denoted by the letter p if m is the mass and he is the velocity of body than linear momentum is
p = MV

linear momentum is a vector quantity it's direction is same as the direction of velocity.
