In case of identical twins, an egg is fertilized by only one sperm but then the zygote formed divides into two separate embryo. So, identical twins are morphologically as well as genetically identical. Such twins are calledmonozygotic twins.

In case of non identical or fraternal twins, two eggs are fertilized by two sperms and separate development of the embryo takes place. They are not genetically identically and consequently their development, physiology, morphological features will not be identical. Such twins are calleddizygotic twins.
