- When Maxwell's dog Jonnie died, he became very unhappy.
- Life without a pet was rather lonely. When he stayed in Southern Iraq in 1959, he saw some Arab people having otters as animals.
- He also supposed to have an otter. He named the otter the mijbil. Mijbil was unresponsive in the beginning but he became close with the narrator.
- In London, mijbil stayed a mystery for most of the people. They couldn’t recognize the otter.
- Some called mijbil a squirrel and some called it a seal.
