Formula of avg speed of two different speeds =

avg \: speed =  \frac{2 \times x \times y}{x + y}

hope this helps.

Average speed = total distance covered/total time taken.

If you travel at a speed X mph for t hrs, the distance covered = xt (distance = speed × time)

Then you travel at a speed y mph for t hrs, the distance covered = yt

So total distance = xt + yt = t(x + y)

and total time = t + t = 2t

so average speed = (x + y)t/2t

= (x + y)/2

So average speed = (x + y)/2

• If you notice, the average speed in this case is the average of x and y.
