During 8th to 9th centuries, nagaram was considered as towns where merchants had conducted commercial activities by means of corporate body known as nagarattar.
Nagarams under the Chola kingdom were usually considered as the commercial towns.
The traders and merchants have created their own organizations and associations here.
They usually considered as the markets of Nadus.
